Nicole Begg Cycling


A very big pary of Nicole Begg’s off season back in New Zealand is taken up by road Cycle races. Short sharp midweek races usually between 18 to 24 km & Saturday around 50 Km, during the summer season programme.

Thursdays race by the St Andrews Cycling Club attracted thirty nine riders all vieing for the 24km Masonic Cup. Caroline West from the limit mark left her co-markers over the closing stages and with a fine effort held off her closes pursuer by fourteen seconds to win the cup. Behind the winner the next six bunches had linked together and were closing the gap rapidly as West crossed there were twenty riders within thirty seconds of her. Andrea Atkinson produced a powerfull sprint to take second from Greg Smith,Phil Burtenshaw,Paul Blackgrove and Evan Davey. Next to cross was Shane Brookland who recorded the fastest time of 34min-52sec from Nicole Begg and Bill Gibb. The cadets raced a three race series, on the first night India Domigan won from Chase Domigan in a time of 20.26 for the 8.5km. The 18km race was won by Breigh Sample from Cameron Fitzgerald and Fabian Wybrow in 37-52 with Fitzgerald Fastest in 30.15. Thursday nights was the closest this season with Chase Domigan just beating Kyke Henham by centimetres, one minute back were Tim Leonard, India,and Ben Sorenson taking fastest time of 16-04 for the 8.5km.
